Interest in ketone supplements has grown alongside demand for metabolic tools that do not require strict dietary restriction. These products, available as drinks, powders, or capsules, raise circulating ketone levels—primarily beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), the body’s main ketone fuel. Making informed decisions requires understanding what form of ketones is used and how that aligns with the scientific literature.
BHB is the primary circulating ketone produced during carbohydrate restriction or fasting. Supplemental BHB can raise blood ketone levels without full adherence to a ketogenic diet, creating a state often referred to as exogenous ketosis.
